Mental disorders like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and anxiety are two of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders in children.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 9.8 percent of children in the United States have received a diagnosis of ADHD while 9.4 percent have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

These conditions can affect adults as well. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 4.4 percent of adults in the United States have ADHD. Additionally, 31.1 percent of adults will experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives.

While both ADHD and anxiety can be treated with medications and therapy, some may wish to explore alternative treatment options. One of these is Brillia, a homeopathic product that claims to lower hyperactivity and anxiety in adults and children.

But what exactly is Brillia? And does it actually work?

Currently, there’s not any evidence to support that Brillia is more effective than standard treatments at reducing symptoms of ADHD or anxiety. Keep reading to learn more.

Brillia is a homeopathic product that’s available over-the-counter (OTC) and backed by Hadaf, LLC. It’s available as:

  • Brillia for Adults
  • Brillia for Children

The product comes in a package of small, dissolvable tablets.

The active ingredient in Brillia are immunoglobulins, or antibodies, specific to a protein called S100B. This protein is involved with several processes in the brain and has been associated with certain neurological and mental disorders.

These antibodies bind to S100B, reducing its activity in the body. When this occurs, symptoms like hyperactivity and anxiety can supposedly be reduced.

Brillia is marketed to adults and children that are experiencing symptoms like:

The product claims to reduce these symptoms while improving attention and focus.

Brillia doesn’t claim to directly treat ADHD or anxiety disorders. Instead, the manufacturers note that it may be used for “a variety of diagnoses, or no official diagnoses at all, as long as [you] suffer from anxiety or hyperactivity.”

There’s currently not any scientific evidence to support that Brillia actually works to reduce symptoms like hyperactivity or anxiety in people.

According to the product webpage, Brillia is supposed to work under the principle that people experiencing symptoms like hyperactivity or anxiety have higher-than-normal levels of S100B proteins. The anti-S100B antibody in Brillia binds to excess S100B protein, restoring it to normal levels.

However, this isn’t what’s been observed in studies of people with ADHD and anxiety. In fact, S100B levels may actually be lower in these individuals. For example:

  • A 2010 study found that S100B protein levels in the blood were marginally lower in people with ADHD compared to a healthy control group. S100B levels were also lower in children experiencing higher levels of anxiety.
  • A 2015 study found that S100B levels in the blood were decreased in untreated people with panic disorder, a type of anxiety disorder. Those taking medications for anxiety had S100B levels similar to healthy controls.

There’s also little evidence to support the effectiveness of homeopathic products in general. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, homeopathy hasn’t been shown to be helpful for ADHD or anxiety.

It’s also important to note that no homeopathic products are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That means that these products don’t have to be tested for effectiveness before being sold to the general public.

The labeling information for both Brillia for Adults and Brillia for Children notes that some people may have an allergic reaction to Brillia in very rare cases.

Additionally, the manufacturer recommends consulting with your doctor before using Brillia if you’re:

Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to talk with your doctor before using any type of supplement for the first time. They can inform you about potential side effects or drug interactions.

Brillia is taken orally. The tablets are designed to dissolve easily in your mouth. The exact instructions differ based on which product is being used:

  • Brillia for Adults: adults 18 years or older can take one or two tablets 2 to 4 times per day for 3 months
  • Brillia for Children: children ages 5 to 18 years old can take one or two tablets 2 to 3 times per day for 3 months

Choosing your dose

You choose how many Brillia tablets you take and how often you take them.

For adults, this depends on whether your symptoms are mild, moderate, or severe. The manufacturer recommends starting with the moderate dosage if you’re unsure. The adult dosages are as follows:

  • Mild: Take 1 tablet three times per day.
  • Moderate: Take 2 tablets three times per day.
  • Severe: Take 3 tablets in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, and 3 in the evening.

For children, dosage is determined by whether your child’s symptoms are moderate or severe. If you’re unsure, manufacturers recommend starting with the moderate dosage. Children’s dosages are as follows:

  • Moderate: Give 1 tablet three times per day.
  • Severe: Give 2 tablets three times per day.

Brillia shouldn’t be taken within 2 hours of going to bed regardless of dose or user’s age.

Brillia breaks

Manufacturers recommend stopping Brillia after each 3-month regimen for 1 to 2 months or 1 month, for adults and children, respectively.

That’s because the manufacturers claim that Brillia is most effective when taken in cycles of 3 months on Brillia, followed by 1 month off Brillia. They note that S100B antibodies should remain in your body during this break period, during which symptoms shouldn’t return.

Brillia is only available online through the manufacturer’s website. The price of Brillia depends on your preferred dosage and how much you’re purchasing.

First, choose your dosage — mild, moderate, or severe for adults and moderate or severe for children.

Then, select either a 3-month supply or 1-month supply of Brillia. There’s a price break when you choose to buy a 3-month supply.

You can also make a one-time purchase or set up a subscription service. The subscription service costs slightly less.

Customer reviews

Much of the customer feedback about Brillia is through testimonials and reviews on the Brillia product website. Customers have also reported on their results through social media sites like Facebook and Reddit.

Customer feedback on the Brillia site generally reflects that users have found Brillia to help with symptoms like hyperactivity or anxiety. Some users note that Brillia helped with some symptoms, but not others.

However, there are also many negative or neutral reviews that note that Brillia didn’t appear to help or even made symptoms worse. Several users also note difficulty scheduling doses around their child’s school and bedtime schedule.

Overall, users generally praise the level of customer service provided by the manufacturer.

What are the ingredients in Brillia?

The active ingredients in Brillia are lapine S100 immune globulin. A mix of dilutions are used, although the manufacturer doesn’t specify the exact ratio of these dilutions, which differ between the adult and child products.

Brillia also contains three other inactive ingredients:

What are S100 proteins?

S100 proteins are a family of small proteins that are involved in a variety of different functions. So far, 25 different S100 proteins have been identified.

S100B, the S100 protein targeted by Brillia, is made by several different cell types. However, it’s mainly produced by astrocytes, a type of cell in the central nervous system (CNS), which includes your brain and spinal cord.

S100B stimulates cellular growth and migration while inhibiting cell death. It plays a role not only in normal development of the CNS, but also in recovery from injury.

As such, high levels of S100B have been associated with brain damage, such as that sustained through a traumatic brain injury or stroke. High S100B levels have also been observed in association with other neurological and mental conditions like:

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is an alternative medical practice. Research from 2012 estimates that 2.2 percent of adults and 1.8 percent of children in the United States have used homeopathy in the past year.

Two principles are important in homeopathy:

  • Like cures like: Practitioners of homeopathy believe that a disease or condition can be cured using treatments that lead to similar symptoms in healthy people.
  • Law of minimum dose: In homeopathy, the lowest dose of a treatment is believed to be the most effective. Most homeopathic products are highly diluted.

Homeopathic products can come from a variety of sources, including plants, minerals, and animals. Many of these products are marketed as a natural alternative to FDA-approved prescription and OTC products.

How is ADHD treated?

There’s currently no cure for ADHD. However, the condition can be managed using medications, therapy, or both.

Simulants are the most common type of medication used for ADHD. Some examples are amphetamine-based stimulants (Adderall, Dexedrine) and methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta). Non-stimulants like atomoxetine (Strattera), clonidine (Kapvay) and guanfacine (Intuniv) may also be used.

People with ADHD can also benefit from different types of therapy, such as:

  • behavioral therapy, which works to encourage and strengthen positive behaviors while reducing disruptive behaviors
  • cognitive-behavioral therapy, which helps to identify and change negative or disruptive thought patterns
  • family therapy, which can help family members understand ADHD and improve their interactions with a loved one that has ADHD

How is anxiety treated?

Anxiety can also be treated using therapy, medications, or both. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most common types of therapy that’s used to help with anxiety.

There are also a wide variety of medications that can be used, such as:

The type of medication chosen depends on the type of anxiety and the desired result. For example, the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder may differ slightly for panic disorder. Additionally, the desired effect may be immediate to resolve severe symptoms, or may be preventative in the case of maintenance treatment.

Complementary and alternative options

You may now be wondering if there are other complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) options for either ADHD or anxiety.

According to NIMH, there are currently no CAM therapies that have been scientifically proven to help with ADHD. The NCCIH notes that the results of studies have been mixed or inconclusive on some CAM approaches, such as:

According to the NCCIH, relaxation techniques and listening to music may be helpful for some individuals with anxiety. Other interventions that appear beneficial, but for which more research is needed, include:

If you’d like to implement CAM approaches into the treatment of ADHD or anxiety, be sure to talk to your doctor beforehand. They can help to inform you about any potential risks or side effects that you need to know about.

Was this helpful?

Brillia is a homeopathic product that claims to improve symptoms like hyperactivity and anxiety in adults and children. Customer testimonials seem to be mixed and despite positive customer testimonials, clinical evidence on its actual effectiveness is currently lacking.

Both ADHD and anxiety can be effectively managed using standard treatment options like medications and therapy. Additionally, there are several CAM approaches, particularly for anxiety, that show promise.

Overall, it’s important to work with your doctor to develop a treatment plan for these conditions. They can help to recommend a plan that best addresses your individual needs.
