Sexy, fun but delicate

Sexy, fun but delicate
Love this carafe. Beautiful. I would call it "eggplant" and not red.Fun to use.The steel filter is too quick and thus, I find it needs a paper filter.Keeps my coffee hot. However, I purchased it to keep my home coffee hot. I have plenty of to go coffee containers. Besides, it is too beautiful to be banging around (scratching) in my basket or backpack.Problem is, it cools fast if you do not plan to remove the glass funnel and close it with the lid. Consequently, I leave the used filter in place. I have also tried the lid as a plug. I have gently, loosely, popped it into the glass funnel after my pour, for some heat retention. But either way, you have to be really careful when you go back for your second pour and with that...still, heat escapes rather quickly. Why isn't there a plastic free, stainless steel, insulated carafe for home use? This could be it, if modified.Cons: The glass is very fragile. Handle with care. I say the less you have to remove the glass funnel, the better. It would be far improved if the glass funnel was also insulated. This is a high-end, delicate item. Treat with care and respect. Rinse CAREFULLY, after each use. This will prevent the coffee from sitting on the painted enamel and discoloring exterior. I place mine back onto it's wooden tray once drip dry to keep it out of harm's way. It has become a new daily ritual for me and I just love using it. Thanks for reading this.

Been doing pour-over on and off for a lifetime. This makes the best cup of coffee...to my tastes. Previously bought a Chemex. The wooden ring around the throat looks cool, and stays cool in your hand. I wear a mens large glove, and it was still too fat and awkward and hard to maintain control. In just several weeks, it squirted out of my hand and shattered.

Found the Asobu as a replacement. Throat is notably narrower, easy to handle, much harder to lose control of. Filter is awesome. Unlike so many other filters, the water flows thru slower, for a richer brew. For those reviewers commenting about weak brews - not my experience. Suggest you add a bit more grounds or a little less water. Or make sure you are using hot enough water. Or be consistent on qty of grounds and water. Some of the pots being sold for heating water for pour-over have a built-in thermometer, so you can be sure you have the right temp range. (The one I use is Barista Warrior Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee & Tea Kettle with Thermometer for Exact Temperature - Gooseneck Spout Pots - Kitchen Appliances & Dorm Essentials (1.2 Liter, 40 fl oz). There are others.

Other reviewers found issues with the lid. My conclusion is they worked so hard to make a great seal, that if you tighten it too much, it really is hard to unscrew, and is probably doing damage to the seal which is causing fails. So find your sweet spot on tighening. I choose not to remove lid and reattach filter holder - too much handling of a thin piece of glass, and I don't want to break it...again. They did sell me a replacement. I just pour direct from the pot, with lid off. Awkward the first couple times, till I got the right feel ... and you will need to use 2 hands!

Love pour over coffee, and when I found this pot with the thermal carafe, knew I wanted to try it. It’s perfect for me. Makes great coffee, then keeps it hot for as long as I need - usually a couple of hours. It has the first permanent filter I’ve used that actually keeps the grounds out of the coffee. I do, however, use a paper filter inside the permanent filter to keep cleanup easier. I use a melitta #2 filter, with a little additional tuck on the seam side to get it a bit further down the cone. Once I run out of these I will probably try #4s, which will fill the permanent filter better.

This is a good product overall, but there is a disconnect on expectations, primarily through the 12 hour claim, and a few minor annoyances. I have overcome some of its limitations through little hacks I read in other comments, and I am very satisfied as a result. For context, I have owned both the Chemex pourover and the Bodum double-walled pourover, and part of why I purchased this product relates to issues I had with those. The Chemex offered no heat retention and, as an all-glass product, inevitably had a finite lifetime in my household. The Bodum had better heat retention, but again, after losing two to breakage, we just needed another solution. For more context, my general routine is to brew and immediately transfer to a thermos mug to take to work on weekdays. On weekends, I will brew a bigger pot for my wife and I, and we usually finish off the pot within a couple hours. As a result, our demands on the product for prolonged heat retention are not high. Now that you awkardly know more about me than I know about you, let’s get to specifics about the product.

Positives:
- wide bottom makes tipping very unlikely, so even though the funnel is glass, I am not as worried about its longevity
- construction with steel and glass limits prolonged exposure to plastics (depending on how you feel about that) and feels solid
- vacuum insulation keeps coffee warmer longer than single-walled brewers; coffee remains satisfyingly warm at 2 hours
- easy to poor when glass funnel attached
- looks nice on the counter
- metal filter works well on its own, although due to issues I have had with eventual clogging with sediment and oils with other fine metal filters, I still tend to use #4 filters in it - a simple well placed crease allows the filter paper to sit nicely flush in the metal filter

Negatives:
- I have not engaged in full-on testing the claims myself, but based on other reviews, but it seems like you have to jump through a lot of hoops (preheating, filling it up as much as possible) to get anywhere close to this 12 hour claim of keeping coffee hot; to be fair, I have zero need for coffee I brew in this pot to be warm 12 hours later, so I don’t see myself breaking out the lab journal any time soon to run my own tests
- glass funnel tapered lip is not drip-proof (really, more like drip-encouraging), so I usually end up pouring off the side away from the taper
- if you screw off the funnel and use the cap, I can see how anyone with remotely smallish hands would have difficulty handling the base - it is simply not designed for gripping; because I find it easier to just poor with the funnel attached (despite drip-drama above), I purchased a silicone stopper used on Chemex and other pourovers for improve heat retention without the cap - easy solution that is annoying in that it requires you to buy something in addition to fully functionalize
- if you dissemble the funnel from the base (either for cleaning or to use the cap), there is a good chance you will experience a leak at the connection point the next time you pour after a brew; I think this is part heat-related expansion and maybe part limited ability to tighten down on a dry gasket; a simple firm twist when you notice it resolves the problem, but it is easy to wonder why you should have to do this, when other companies have clearly figured out how to achieve a good seal the first time

Bottom line, there are some minor annoyances, but the product is fundamentally a purchase that I can recommend, especially if your coffee habits are similar to mine. Hopefully, the company takes some of the frequently repeated criticisms in the comments to iterate on their design, because I think their product addresses a poorly filled niche in the pourover market.

This is a very good quality item. The carafe keeps my coffee warm (I'm guessing that's the double wall). It's easy to clean manually with a baby bottle brush, no dishwasher needed. I can't think of any real cons. Some tips and answers to questions that others might find helpful:

- One of the other reviews/answers mentioned re-tightening the grip after brewing. This is a good step. I didn't notice any leakage but it definitely was more loose than before brewing.
- The grip gets warm but not uncomfortable.
- This comes with a screw-on cap. You need to remove the grip/glass to screw it on. That said, I just placed the cap in the glass and this worked to keep my coffee warm. The cap never got hot.
- It comes with instructions for how to pour. If you're new, I'd imagine they are very helpful. It's a mild brew (50/50 water/grounds).
- FILTERS: You can probably use this without filters. I use my Hario size 2 filters. The attached image is 66g of ground coffee with a full out-in-out pour draining but I suspect you could probably use the size 3. The only size 4 filters I've ever found are not truly conical. Instead of a point at the end the size 4 filters have a flat bottom that's significantly wider than the metal one and thus would be annoying to use.

Por el tipo de método consumes más café de lo normal para lograr el sabor ideal si te gusta fuerte, pero lo vale sin duda.
El termo no guarda tanto el calor, pero en mi caso no requiero sea mayor a 2-3 horas
