I'm not intentionally a messy cook but I hate it when spatters mar pages.     I had one of these for many years and used it almost every day. When I finally dropped it one too many times, I thought I'd get a "fancier" one, but after looking at all the other options, I came back to this and bought another one. I love it! I love how wide it is so that it covers all but the largest of books and keeps them clean no matter how much I splatter. I love how easy it is to clean. And I love how there's no wooden base so you can see 100% of the page, all the way to the bottom. It's sturdy -- I've never had problems with books falling backward. Just be careful about not shoving in books that are too thick: you can break the plastic back if you push it too far.

    I use it whenever I cook, but I also use it for holding a book at the kitchen table when I'm eating alone - hands-free reading, it's great!
