Product Details

The most complete, clinically studied Prenatal Multi in capsule form.

We formulated our Prenatal Multi in collaboration with perinatal practitioners, using data from testing thousands of mamas' nutrient levels to support you to thrive, not just survive. Our Prenatal Multi includes 26 nutrients in optimal forms and dosages that mothers and babies need.*

Take it before, during, after pregnancy— and even beyond.

Learn More

Contains all the vitamins, minerals, and botanicals needed for complete, comprehensive nourishment — many of the best nutrients are bulky and can’t fit into your 1- or 2-a-day prenatal capsules.

Each serving includes 200mcg of active B12 (most prenatals dose too low to support optimal levels), 400mg of Choline, 4,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 (2-4x what others include), 918mcg DFE of methylated form of Folate, and minerals bound to Glycine for best absorption and digestive comfort*.

We studied 235 pregnant women living across the US, and compared blood levels of nutrients by the type of prenatal they were taking. Women taking the Needed Multi Prenatal had significantly higher blood levels of key nutrients for pregnancy including Vitamin D, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin K2, and Selenium, compared to the women taking the standard prenatal.

What's not in our Prenatal Multi is as important as what is. You won't find: unnecessary fillers, poor nutrient forms like Folic Acid, unsustainably-sourced ingredients (like Vegan D3), high heavy metal loads, and nutrients better taken separately including Omega-3 and Iron.

Our Prenatal Multis include methylfolate as Optifolin+®, a bioavailable, fully bioactive folate form. Optifolin+® is a choline-enriched folate salt which unlocks superior biological benefits that support key processes like baby’s brain development. Other forms of methylfolate do not carry this nutritionally synergistic benefit.

For our Citrus Prenatal Multi, each bottle contains an EU Food compliant citrus sachet to enhance the scent and taste of our multis without compromising quality or adding additional ingredients. The citrus sachets are made with citrus essential oils and do not contain artificial colors or fragrance. These sachets function aromatically to help support the overall sensory experience.

*Based on our IRB approved Prenatal Nutrient Status Study, an observational cross-sectional decentralized clinical research study.

How to Use

Take capsules daily with food, ideally in the morning or around lunchtime for optimal energy throughout the day. Dose may be divided between meals. When switching from a less nutrient-dense multi, start with 2 capsules/day, building up to a full 8 capsules. Store fully sealed at room temperature.

Vitamin A 1,500mcg RAE Powder
1,500mcg RAE Capsules
750mcg RAE Essentials
as 50% Beta Carotene and as 50% Retinyl Palmitate
Retinyl Palmitate is an active form that is more readily usable by the body. Beta Carotene is often poorly absorbed and inefficiently converted into the active form. And, many women have a genetic variation that prevents the conversion completely. Our combination provides enough Retinyl Palmitate to be effective, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • immune function
  • healthy skin and vaginal tissues
  • thyroid function
  • production of hormones like estrogen and progesterone
  • pregnancy viability (embryo implantation)
  • placenta development
  • adequate milk supply
How it supports baby:
  • fetal facial feature development including eyes and ears
  • adequate birth weight
  • full-term gestation
Vitamin C 300mg Powder
300mg Capsules
75mg Essentials
as Ascorbic Acid
Ascorbic Acid is the main form of Vitamin C found naturally in fruit and other foods. This is a highly efficacious dose of Vitamin C to support mama in pregnancy and postpartum as delivery and labor use extraordinary amounts of Vitamin C.
How it supports mama:
  • immune function
  • antioxidant - prevents cell damage
  • healthy connective tissues and skin (collagen synthesis)
  • iron absorption
  • mental health as a component of neurotransmitter biosynthesis
  • metabolism and healthy energy levels
How it supports baby:

  • cell division, i.e. how baby grows
  • building cartilage, tendons, bones, teeth, blood vessels, and skin
Vitamin D 4,000 IU Powder
4,000 IU Capsules
2,000 IU Essentials
as D3 Cholecalciferol
Vitamin D3 is technically not a vitamin, but a prohormone. Prohormones are the building blocks of fully formed hormones. Your skin produces Vitamin D3 when it is exposed to sunlight. But, most mamas don't get enough sun and Vitamin D is difficult to get from food. In addition, many women contain genetic variations that predispose them to lower levels of Vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is more readily used by the body than Vitamin D2. Our dose provides enough to be effective, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • immune function
  • calcium and phosphorus absorption
  • bind and eliminate toxins
  • healthy blood pressure
  • a healthy full-term pregnancy
How it supports baby:
  • immune function
  • cell division, i.e. how baby grows
  • forming bones and teeth
  • respiratory function
Vitamin E 30mg Powder
30mg Capsules
10mg Essentials
as Mixed Tocopherols
Tocopherols are antioxidants that occur naturally in foods such as nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables. We source ours from rapeseed oil rather than the more commonly found soybean oil. We provide 67mg of mixed tocopherols overall, with 30mg from d-alpha tocopherols declared as Vitamin E. This dose provides extra antioxidant support to meet the needs of pregnant and nursing mamas.
How it supports mama:
  • healthy skin
  • anti-aging
  • healthy neurological function
  • normal cardiac function
  • healthy lipid profiles
  • normal inflammatory response
How it supports baby:

Thiamin HCl is the most commonly used form of Thiamin in prenatal vitamins. Other forms of Thiamin may be better absorbed, but are not therapeutically indicated for pregnant women.
How it supports mama:
  • cardiovascular function
  • energy generation
  • carbohydrate metabolism
  • healthy neurological function
How it supports baby:
  • neurological development
  • healthy cognitive function
  • healthy cardiovascular function

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 20mg Powder
20mg Capsules
5mg Essentials
as 50% Riboflavin 5-Phosphate and 50% Riboflavin
Vegan or vegetarian mamas have decreased dietary intake of Riboflavin. Deficiencies observed in clinical practice supports our higher dosage. The Riboflavin family are the precursors of the coenzymes, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN). We use both forms to support production of both coenzymes as Riboflavin contributes the flavin to FAD and Riboflavin-5-Phosphate is synonymous to FMN.
How it supports mama:
  • energy (ATP) production
  • antioxidant involved in glutathione metabolism
  • metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, fats
  • healthy mood postpartum
  • healthy immune and inflammatory response
How it supports baby:

How it supports mama:
  • healthy blood pressure in a normal range
  • postpartum weight loss
  • involved in cellular energy metabolism
  • reduces inflammation and oxidative stress
  • healthy skin
  • promoting healthy lipid profiles
How it supports baby:
  • fetal growth and development
  • healthy skin
  • promoting healthy birth weight and growth
Vitamin B6 40mg Powder
40mg Capsules
15mg Essentials
as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate
Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate is bioavailable and ready to be used by the body. It's only found in animal products. Many, due to a common genetic variation, are inefficient converters of B6 Pyridoxine into the active form. Our dose is especially supportive for mamas, including for mood imbalance and nausea, and is highly safe. Many mamas are low in B6, as hormonal birth control significantly depletes the body of it.
How it supports mama:
  • minimizes nausea
  • blood sugar balance
  • healthy mood through production of several key neurotransmitters
  • increasing Magnesium absorption
  • protein utilization, by interconverting amino acids
How it supports baby:
  • DNA synthesis
  • brain and nervous system development
  • adequate birth weight
  • healthy skin
Folate 918mcg DFE Powder
918mcg DFE Capsules
918mcg DFE Essentials
as L-Methylfolate
We intentionally chose methylfolate over folic acid, as many women are unable to effectively utilize folic acid which needs multiple metabolic steps to convert it into its active form – methylfolate. Folate as methylfolate is bioavailable and ready to be used by the body without any metabolic road-blocks. Our dosage provides enough Folate to be effective, especially for those with conversion difficulty, while still being safe for all mothers and mothers-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • mood imbalances, as it helps produce several key neurotransmitters
  • heart health
  • healthy red blood cells
  • immune support
  • detoxification
How it supports baby:
  • normal neural tube development
  • normal midline development including the mouth
  • DNA and red blood cell synthesis
  • cell division, i.e. how baby grows
Vitamin B12 200mcg Powder
200mcg Capsules
150mcg Essentials
as 50% Adenosylcobalamin and 50% Methylcobalamin
Adenosylcobalamin and Methylcobalamin are the two active coenzyme forms that are readily usable by the body. Adenosylcobalamin supports energy and a healthy metabolism, and is often missing in prenatals. Cyanocobalamin, the more common form of B12, consists of a harmful compound that requires additional processing for safe removal from the body. We avoid this form. Our combination provides enough Vitamin B12 to be highly supportive, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • energy levels
  • healthy metabolism
  • cognitive health
How it supports baby:
  • DNA and red blood cell synthesis

as Di-Calcium Malate (DimaCal™) and naturally occurring
Di-Calcium Malate is absorbed significantly better than other forms of Calcium, such as Calcium Citrate or Carbonate. The RDA for Calcium is 1,000mg. However, Calcium is best taken throughout the day, rather than in a single large dose. Our dosage is supportive for filling in gaps in mama’s diet, especially for non-dairy mamas.
How it supports mama:
  • healthy blood pressure
  • cardiac function
  • healthy bones
  • production of hormones like insulin

    Customizable and low effort

I started taking these as we were preparing to start trying to conceive. I decided on Needed because of the customizability, since they don’t include the Iron and Omega you can add it on as needed. It’s also so easy to pause or change delivery dates if needed.

    Best prenatal multi I’ve tried!

I put this in my fruit smoothie every day, tastes great and I don’t have the GI issues that I’ve experienced with other prenatal vitamins. I also have noticed that I don’t get as many cravings and feel better in general since using this!

    Great!

I’ve loved taking this prenatal for my second pregnancy and wish I had it for my first! The ingredients are amazing and it doesn’t leave a horrible taste in my mouth like others have.

    Exactly what I needed!

On my third pregnancy, my first trimester nausea was the worst it’s been yet! I struggled to take any sort of prenatal which lead me to the Needed prenatal powder. I started putting it in smoothies to finally get the nutrients I needed. But life happens and I wasn’t making a smoothie every day, which lead me to the essential prenatal pills. They have been wonderful! So easy to take with almost zero icky smell or taste. Definitely recommend!

    Love this!

I never took this whilst pregnant but did postpartum. I breastfed between my 3 for years so have decided to take this for an additional year whilst neither pregnant nor breastfeeding to make sure i replenish what I’m sure I’ve lost over the years.

The 8 pills can be a lot but you get used to it. I typically have mine with breakfast. Lots of energy and great quality in the right ratios

Questions? We have answers.

Thoughtful inquiry is needed.

What makes Needed's Prenatal Multi different from others?

We work directly with practitioners who regularly test mamas' nutrient levels before, during, and after pregnancy to know what's truly needed. Together, we have selected nutrient forms of 26 vitamins, minerals, and botanicals that work best in the body, and dosages intended to help you thrive, not just survive. Most prenatals are designed to meet bare minimum needs, and often contain inadequate nutrient amounts and tough-to-absorb forms.

When should I start taking the Prenatal Multi?

Take it before, during, after pregnancy — and even beyond — for the nourishment you need to feel your best and avoid depletion, and to give your baby everything their body needs to thrive from the very start. We like to stress the importance of preconception nutritional preparation and postpartum recovery, so this product is for you even if you are a few years away from having kids or a few years postpartum.

Why do the amounts of some of the nutrients in Prenatal Multi exceed the percent Daily Value?

We designed our Prenatal Multi to help you thrive, not just survive. Daily Values are set off of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) which most often do not offer enough nutritional value for pregnant and nursing women. Read our journal article on the topic to learn more.

Is your Prenatal Multi vegan, allergen free, and Non-GMO?

Our Prenatal Multi is vegetarian and non-GMO. Free of eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nut allergens, wheat, and gluten.

Everything makes me nauseous while I am pregnant, will your product work for me?

Many pregnant mothers find it helpful to take smaller doses throughout the day with meals (i.e. 3 with breakfast, 3 with lunch, 2 with dinner). Our pared down Prenatal Multi Essentials is a great option for those who prefer fewer capsules. If you need more information, please download our Getting Started Guide.

Is this Prenatal Clinically Studied?

Yes. In our Prenatal Nutrient Status Study, an IRB-approved observational cross-sectional clinical research study, we compared blood levels of nutrients among 235 pregnant women living across the US, by the type of prenatal vitamin they were taking. Women taking the Needed Multi Prenatal had significantly higher blood levels of key nutrients for pregnancy including Vitamin D, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin K2, and Selenium, compared to the women taking the standard prenatal.
