Managing Your Journey

Lesson 13 · 5 min

Managing high cholesterol can be a lifelong journey for some. So it’s important to remember that with diet, exercise, and medication, you can keep your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels low and your HDL (good) cholesterol levels high.

If you’re in need of medication, be regimented with it. If you’re working to keep your levels where they need to be with diet and exercise, try not to get discouraged. It’s important to stay positive, and remember that you have the power to positively affect your numbers.

Taking steps to improve your cholesterol numbers today can help reduce your risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke in the future.

Fast fact

The earlier you lower cholesterol, the better. According to research from 2019, young adults who lower their non-HDL cholesterol by 50 percent reduce their risk of stroke and other heart disease events three-fold by age 75.
